The Narrative Dilemma – When does the story cross journalistic boundaries?
At the Narrative Journalism Foundation (Stichting Verhalende Journalistiek) we observe guidelines for what makes a journalistic production narrative, but we do not have similar guidelines to determine what makes a narrative production journalistic, or not. In light of recent controversy over journalists who are said to have stretched their narrative freedom too far, we want to explore those journalistic and narrative boundaries, to more clearly understand where those boundaries lie and at what point they are being crossed.
Jan Kuitenbrouwer will kick-off the evening with a spoken column about the pitfalls of narrative journalism. After that moderator Katinka Baehr will host a debate with Mads Brügger, Thomas Rueb and Mimi Lok about the challenges that narrative journalists encounter when creating their stories.
This event is part of our conference ‘True Stories: Beyond The Bubble’.
Please note: There is limited seating at the debate. Only those in possession of a ticket for ‘True Stories: Beyond The Bubble’ can attend the debate. Please let us know if you want to attend the debate when purchasing your ticket.
Masterclasses on May 16th
We are thrilled to have so many talented speakers present at our conference. Because we want to offer our visitors a full-on experience, we asked the speakers to elaborate more on their practice and hand out practical skills in an additional masterclass. We offer these classes for a reduced price with the conference-ticket. Note: you need to purchase separate tickets here to attend these masterclasses.
